Overview
Blueprint Conversion helps contractors improve their sales process, manage opportunities and win more jobs.
I work on the Laravel/PHP backend: the business logic behind lead, application and project processes, the automated notifications, and the production application and its servers.
The problem
Customers and contractors move through several stages, and each stage needs the right data and notifications. Much of that work runs automatically in the background, so it has to be dependable in production.
My role
What I did
- Developed and maintained Laravel/PHP backend functionality for contractor and customer workflows.
- Implemented business logic supporting lead, application and project-related processes.
- Built and maintained automated email and notification workflows for different stages of the customer and contractor journey.
- Worked with MySQL data models and backend services to support application functionality and reporting.
- Investigated and resolved production issues involving background workers, queued jobs and automated processing.
- Maintained and improved the production application and its server-side infrastructure.
What the wider team did
- Frontend and UI development.

Technical approach
A Laravel application backed by MySQL runs the business logic for each stage of the customer and contractor workflows.
Automated processing runs in Laravel queue workers managed by Supervisor, which send email and notifications. Admin workflows update application and project data, and those updates drive notifications.

Challenges and solutions
Workers running older code
Challenge: Some automated workflows depend on continuously running background workers. After a deployment, changes weren't reflected in production because the workers were still running older code.
Solution: The issue was traced to the worker lifecycle, and the relevant workers were restarted so the updated application logic took effect.
